UT Weight Management

Plan Details

UT Weight Management is a physician managed weight loss program offering comprehensive medical assessment and program management by a board certified Internal Medicine or Family Medicine physician.

We provide 1-on-1 counseling to meet your unique needs.

Comprehensive
We emphasize healthy changes in nutrition and physical activity. We also provide treatment with medication or refer to surgery when appropriate.

Scientifically-based
We apply principles and strategies based on the best available scientific evidence.

Supervised by physicians
Board certified physicians supervise all aspects of your care.

Our Plan

Initial Questionnaire
The initial questionnaire (filled out at home) evaluates:
  • Weight and weight loss history
  • Nutrition and physical activity habits
  • Social and psychological factors

Medical Assessment
The physician performs a medical assessment to determine if you are eligible for the program. This involves review of the initial questionnaire, medical history, physical exam, and labs to evaluate the severity of the weight problem, underlying causes of excess weight, and associated medical conditions.

6-Month Program

Nutritional counseling with the dietician:

  • Initial evaluation
  • Body composition analysis
  • 5 monthly follow-up sessions
  • Feedback on food diary

Physical activity counseling with the fitness professional:

  • Initial evaluation
  • Pedometer
  • 5 monthly follow-up sessions

Medical supervision by the physician:

  • 6 monthly visits, usually immediately before or after dietician sessions
  • Coordination with your primary care provider to improve overall care
  • Weight loss medications, if appropriate, with close monitoring
  • Referral to bariatric surgery, if needed

Limited counseling with a clinical psychologist is available if needed.
